Everyone loves a comment with a little spiciness to it — even more so when they are in on the joke that's being dished out. Build up your music brand and grow your fans by reacting to recent events in witty ways. But don't simply respond to random subjects that have nothing to do with your niche, be selective in choosing areas where you want to be seen as an authority figure. Seeing a trap rapper comment on an EDM song isn't going to aid in growing their brand in the trap nor the EDM niche.

An additional point

Promoting a new album, EP, or song by reacting to recent events, news and trends is called "real-time marketing" and is a proven way to score new fans while making your music brand more relatable. It may at times even result in going viral. This has other residual effects. Any good vibes associated with your post will also be associated with your music brand. To do this, all you need to do is put together a graphic with your response or head over to a popular free gif website and download a free gif to upload as your response to the recent comment.

An example is commenting on a Verzuz video on youtube and on other social media platforms. The Lox and Dipset battle is one of the most popular Versuz battles at the time of this blog. If you commented on The Lox and Dipset battle on Twitter with a gif and link back to the video you most likely received comments and views followed by views of your Twitter profile which should have your new music release visible.

That someone who had no clue who you are will also most likely decide to check out your music. But here is the point I mentioned earlier. If your style of music doesn't match that of The Lox nor Dipset style of music then when the new prospective fan investigates your new release, they will be disappointed and even annoyed. This is why I must say again stick to your niche (specific style of music). While you are still building up your brand you shouldn't cross over to other areas with a witty comment — ADHD diagnosed or not. Hold tight.

  • Trap rappers should respond to trap related subjects
  • Country singers should respond to country-related subjects
  • Beat droppers should respond to beat drop related subjects
  • EDM producers should respond to EDM related subjects
